Chapter 6 · Concept 50 of 50

The Wealth Mindset

Why Time Matters More Than Money
Since we have spent 50 pages talking about credit scores, interest rates, taxes, and stocks, you may think the goal is just to make the balance in your bank account go up. But it’s not.

Being wealthy is different from having a high income. After all, high earners can still feel trapped if their spending rises along with their paycheck. True wealth is the ability to choose how you spend your day.

Wealth means having flexibility. It means not being forced to work extra hours, missing important moments, or agreeing to commitments you’d rather turn down.

The Path To Financial Independence: Every dollar you save and invest can generate income in the future. Over time, these dollars begin to work for you through interest, dividends, and growth.

You may eventually reach a point where your investment income covers your living expenses. This is often called “financial independence,” and at that stage, working becomes a choice rather than a requirement.
Money is a tool. Time is the reward. Building wealth means buying freedom for your future self.

I hit my "financial independence" number last month. I didn't quit my job, and I didn't buy a yacht. But something changed. When my boss was rude to me yesterday, I didn't feel stress. I just smiled. I realized I was only there because I chose to be, not because I had to be. That feeling is worth more than any paycheck.
